Hookena Top Readers get a tour of Kona

Auntie’s Angels hosted the Hookena Top Readers on Thursday.

The readers had breakfast at the Fish Hopper in Kailua-Kona followed by a walk over to Hulihe’e Palace for a private tour.

Ki’ope pond was of special interest for the students, as was a visit to the Kona library, where books were purchased for each student from Friends of the Library.

The Auntie’s Angels charity started with Hookena three years ago, offering a brown-bag food program, and later started a Readers Club, encouraging students with a monthly pizza party and free books for top readers.
